The Government of Japan delivered a several devices that will strengthen the diagnostic and treatment capacity of urology services at Costa Rica’s National Rehabilitation Center (CENARE), said the Costa Rican government in a statement.

“This donation from the Government of Japan allows us to carry out high technology procedures, thereby reducing risks and optimizing care. At the same time, they enable us to substantially reduce the length of hospitalization, which gives patients a greater degree of comfort and well-being,” said Arnoldo Matamoros, director of CENARE.

The donation of medical equipment, valued at US$94,925, includes a portable flexible urethral fibroscope, a resectoscope, and a urodynamics monitor. These devices will allow specialists to evaluate patients’ urinary tracts and assess their total functional capacity, as well as treat various urinary tract, urethra, prostate and bladder problems, such as neurogenic bladder disorder, which consists of an alteration of the normal physiological function of the urinary tract.

Japan Ambassador Yoshiaki Ito said that the donation of equipment was made under the Japanese Government’s  Assistance for Community and Human Security cooperation program.
