The leading U.S. travel magazine, Travel+Leisure, published their top Central America picks this week, with Pérez Zeledón, Costa Rica’s Hacienda AltaGracia topping the list.

The resort, which received a score of 97.33 by the magazine, is described as follows:

“Set on 865 acres of land in southern Costa Rica, this remote spot caters to its travelers from the moment of arrival — via its private airstrip, if you wish. Guests stay in stylish, earth-toned suites and casitas with fireplaces, and can enjoy horseback riding, biking, hiking, and an indoor and outdoor pool without leaving the grounds. The food is fresh and delicious (lunch might be a whole-grain veggie burger or hearts-of-palm ceviche, for example), and you can stay in a healthy mind-set during a fitness or meditation class. ‘We are hotel snobs,’ wrote one reader, ‘and this place is our favorite.’ Another upped the ante, adding, ‘Heaven on earth.'”

Hacienda Altagracia, an Auberge Resort, surrounded by mountains and rivers, offers a sumptuous taste of rural Costa Rica at its finest. Its 50 lodges, each with an ample patio, offer breathtaking views of the San Isidro Valley.

Amenities include a full-service spa with indoor and outdoor treatment areas, a pool and game room, as well as private dining facilities, whether for couples or groups.

Select tours hand-picked by the hotel for their quality include attractions such as coffee plantations and wildlife refuges, as well as ultra-light flights through Nauyaca Falls from the hotel’s private track.

Following on the heels of AltaGracia is Nayara Springs near the Arenal Volcano National Park, about 150 kilometers from San José.

Nayara Springs, with its 35 luxurious villas and mineral spring pools, was ranked the top resort in Central America by Condé Nast for 2017.
