The strong winds that have affected the country since this Saturday evening have caused damages with the wiring and the falling of trees or branches in different areas of the country.

The emergency services have received reports from, route 32 (road to Limon), the Interamericana Norte (between San Ramón and Puntarenas), Palmares (Alajuela), Coronado (San Jose), Puntarenas, Turrialba (Cartago), Tilarán (Guanacaste) among others.

According to the Costa Rican Fire Department, in just one hour this Sunday morning they received 40 emergency calls mostly related to fallen trees, fallen signs, short circuits and damaged roofs.

The Costa Rican Institute of Meteorology and the National Emergency Commission  issued an alert  this past Friday warning about bad weather conditions affecting the country starting Saturday night, as a result of a cold front, with strong winds in the Central Valley and rainy conditions in the Caribbean coast and North Zone.

Unstable conditions at sea as a result of the strong winds and rain will generate large waves could also represent a danger to surfers and swimmers.

These weather conditions are expected to continue through Tuesday.
