Two foreign tourists, a man and a woman died today in the area of Playa Chiquita, Limón when a tree feel over the cabin where they were staying.

According to the Talamanca Red Cross, the incident was reported at around 1:42 a.m. when as a result of the strong winds a tree fell over the room where the foreigners were sleeping.

According to the authorities both are natives of Sweden and of last name Balmere.

Also in the area of Limon, close to the Earth University a trailer truck overturned when it was hit by a branch, the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree to the side of the road, the two men were trapped in the car and later rescued by the firefighters and taken to the hospital.

Route 32, which connects San Jose to Limon is currently closed due to mudslides and fallen trees.

Another deadly incident occurred in Caldera, Puntarenas, when a cyclist who was taking part of a competition, was hit by the branch of a tree that fell as he was driving by. The accident took place at around 9:12 a.m.

The road that connects Tilaran in Guanacaste to Rincon de la Vieja National Park also remains closed as authorities remove fallen trees from the road.

The strong winds have caused damages in several parts of the country, and according to the CNFL (Power and Electricity Company) there are at least 20,0000 people in the Great Metropolitan Area without electric service .

The windy conditions are expected to persist through Tuesday.
