U.S. businessman David Patey announced today his resignation to the presidency of the Heredia soccer team.
Patey made the following statement through Facebook:
“My concern is for my family and their well being is without a doubt my priority. I know who I am, I have a clear conscience. I feel bad this week for having taken so much space in social media and national press. I am a guest in this beautiful country and I don’t want to be a distraction, it’s not fair. For this reason, I have resigned my position in Herediano. It has been a very difficult week for us, I hope you can understand me, but you know that tests in life is what makes us stronger!
Heredianos, I love you so much!! Costa Rican soccer in general…
Goal hug for the world cup@
Your friend today and always.”
David
Patey a native of Utah, who has lived in Costa Rica since 2003, became the focus of all Costa Rican media several days ago when in and interview with Channel 7, the District Attorney Emilia Navas confirmed that he is being investigated since 2015 for suspicion of drug trafficking and money laundering along with one of his associates and friends Michael Lawrence Brannon Hutson also known as “Scott Brannon”.
The former president of Heredia soccer club and owner of Ponderosa Adventure Park, offered a press conference earlier this week where he stated that he was aware of the investigation; he maintained his innocence and affirmed he has nothing to hide. In the same press conference, he had said that if it came to be necessary he would step down from his position in the soccer team for the benefit of the institution.
