Cézanne-Portraits of a Life is the new documentary film part of the program Exhibition on Screen that will be screened at the Magaly movie theater in Barrio La California, on Tuesday, April 24 and Sunday, April 29.

Paul Cézanne was a French artist and post-impressionist painter, Portraits of Life is dedicated to his portrait work, “One can’t appreciate 20th century art without understanding the significance and genius of Paul Cézanne. Featuring interviews with curators and experts from the National Portrait Gallery London, MoMA New York, National Gallery of Art Washington, and Musée d’Orsay Paris, and correspondence from the artist himself, the film takes audiences beyond the exhibition to the places Cézanne lived and worked and sheds light on an artist who is perhaps the least known of all the impressionists – until now”.

Cézanne is said to have formed the bridge between late 19th-century Impressionism and the early 20th century’s new line of artistic inquiry, Cubism.

“The brush strokes of Cézanne are very characteristic, all combined to form a complex ensemble, representing what the eye sees and at the same time an abstraction of this. His observance of objects from different points of view was revolutionary, which takes him to representations from different perspectives at the same time, simultaneity that was later adopted by cubists”.

The different films of Exhibition on Screen have been declared of public interest by the Costa Rican Ministry of Culture.
