Ernesto Sierra, Jorge Caso, Sergio Lorenzo and Andrés Denis are the four US tourists that died on Saturday, October 20, when their rafts capsized in the Naranjo River in Quepos, Costa Rica, the victims were between the ages of 25 and 35.

The fifth victim whose body was found past 9 p.m. was a Costa Rican tour guide identified as Kevin Thompson Reid, 45 years of age.

Apparently, Sierra, Caso, Lorenzo and Denis were part of a group of 14 tourists that arrived to Costa Rica October 18 to celebrate the bachelor party of one of the survivors, they were staying in a rented house in Jaco in the Central Pacific.

Authorities in Costa Rica received the alert after 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, members of the Red Cross, Public Police Force, Coast Guard Service and Air Surveillance joined the mission and were able to rescue alive and in good conditions 13 people, 10 American tourists and 3 Costa Ricans.

“In behalf of Costa Rica and the Costa Rican people, I express my deepest dismay for the water accident that occurred the afternoon of this Saturday, October 20 in the Naranjo River in Quepos (…) I have instructed the corresponding authorities to offer all the necessary support to the victims’ families”, expressed President Carlos Alvarado.

The Naranjo River is one of the most popular rivers to practice rafting in Costa Rica, however, the heavy and constant rains of the past weeks that have affected the Pacific coast specially, naturally increase the risks of rafting.
