Miami, Feb 6 (EFE).– Fans of the late songstress Selena are asking Mattel to create a Barbie doll inspired by the vocalist of “Amor Prohibido,” a petition that up to now has collected more than 4,500 signatures on the Web site Change.org.

The petition comes after Mattel announced the launch of three other kinds of Barbie dolls (tall, curvy and short) that are already on sale.

Up to now some 4,583 people have signed the request that says Mattel should create an official Selena Barbie because she “is one of the world’s most adored Latin celebrities.”

“Selena was the true definition of an all-star role model,” the text continues.

For her fans, though there was a non-official limited edition of a Selena Barbie in the past, “there has yet to be any curvy Hispanic Barbie dolls in any Barbie line.”

“We think Selena is a perfect candidate for that kind of representation. Selena was truly a person to be admired and I think young girls and boys would appreciate having a Selena doll in their collection,” the petition says.

This is not the first attempt to immortalize the Queen of Tex-Mex. Her fans previously sought to have her image displayed at the Madame Tussauds wax museum, to get her a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and to have her made a Disney Princess.

However, the biggest success scored yet is a limited edition of “Selena Quintanilla” cosmetics, which goes on the market this year.

The winner of a Grammy Award for Best Mexican/American Album has sold more than 70 million discs worldwide, becoming one of the top three Latinas in the number of albums sold.
