Los Angeles, Jun 20 (EFE).– A Hollywood studio considered eliminating Latino actress Zoe Saldana from a film because her pregnancy was an inconvenience for the production, she said in an interview published in the daily USA Today.

The U.S. artist, 36, born of a Dominican father and Puerto Rican mother, gave birth Nov. 2014 to twin baby boys Cy and Bowie from her relations with Italy’s Marco Perego.

“Let me tell you something, it will never be the right time for anybody in your life that you get pregnant,” Saldana said, adding that the productions she was already signed up for “had a panic” when they discovered she was gestating.

“I heard through the grapevine there was even a conversation of me being written off of one of the projects,” said the actress, who this weekend premieres “Infinitely Polar Bear” and has starring roles in the big box-office sagas “Avatar,” “Star Trek,” and “Guardians of the Galaxy,” whose next sequels are in the works.

Saldana took the news with surprise and indignation.

“I was like, ‘Oh, my God, are you kidding me? It’s this bad? Right when I just feel super-duper happy, is that inconvenient for you? That me, as a woman in my thirties, I finally am in love and I am finally starting my life? And it’s (screwing) your schedule up? Really?'” the actress said.

The production in question, which goes nameless in the report, has met with some delays and Saldana was able to continue with her agenda as planned, though she then came up against another problem – the studios did not want to include in her contract any help for looking after her kids during the shoot.

Saldana said that studios will “spend more money sometimes perking up male superstars,” who get privileges like private jets, personal assistants, bodyguards, or a “really phat penthouse or them staying in yachts.”

“But then a woman comes in going, ‘Okay, I have a child. You’re taking me away from my home. You’re taking my children away from their home. And you’re going to make me work a lot more hours than I usually would if I was home; therefore, I would have to pay for this nanny for more hours – so I kind of need that.’ And they go, ‘Nope, we don’t pay for nannies,'” Saldana said.

The actress’s rep Gary Mantoosh said, however, that Saldana was finally able to resolve the altercation with the studio. EFE
