A group of U.S. citizens living in Costa Rica, gathered in front of the US embassy this Saturday to manifest against Trump’s immigration policies.

Chanting “What is democracy? Resisting is Democracy!” and “We are ashamed!” while holding signs with messages like “Liberty for children in the boarder”, “No to families’ separation”, “They are refugees, please help them”, “Stop tearing families apart”, these expats chose to support the movement “Families Belong Together” that took place Saturday across the United States.

In an interview with Channel 7 (Teletica.com), Raquel Ford a U.S. citizen that lives in Grecia, Costa Rica stated “We are ashamed of the policy of Donald Trump of separating children and placing them in detention centers, this is not acceptable, we have to unite and protect the children”.

The Administration of President Trump launched the “zero tolerance” immigration policy back in April, the same considers illegal border crossing a criminal offense, meaning that minors are separated from their families. However, in the past few days and as a result of the harsh criticism received, President Trump signed an executive order to end family separations at the border.

“Since then, the US government has reunited 538 children with their relatives, but more than 2,000 minors still remain separated, according to data from the US Department of Homeland Security”.
