A man from the United States who was apparently vacationing in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area in Costa Rica’s Central Pacific region was rushed to the hospital in delicate condition this afternoon after the taxi he was traveling in spun out of control after ramming into a tractor, reported El Diario Extra, Costa Rica’s Spanish daily tabloid.

The man was preliminarily identified as John Thomas Ranolf by the paper, and was reported to be interned at the Max Teran Hospital in Quepos.

Eyewitness, who came to help the victim, said the taxi driver, who was traveling from Perez Zeledon towards Quepos, apparently tried to overtake the tractor, however at some point hit the tractor, which was carrying a load of sugar cane, from behind, reported El Extra.

The impact sent the vehicle spinning until it stopped in the middle of the road. Firefighters were called to remove the men from the car. And traffic police arrived at the site to draw up tickets, and initiate an investigation, said El Extra.

All that is known at this point about the others involved in the crash is that the taxi driver was named Aguilar; and the tractor, with license plate #304003, was driven by a man named Espinoza Jimenez.
