One of the most popular wearable computing devices in the market will soon be worn on the wrists of iPhone users in Costa Rica who can afford them. The Apple Watch will start selling in Costa Rica later this month, specifically on November 20th, at stores operated by official distributor iCon.
The Apple Watch models that will be sold in Costa Rica include the sport versions of 38 and 42 millimeters as well as the stainless steel version. Various wristbands will be available; they range from leather to silicon rubber and stainless steel. The 18-karat gold version is not yet available.
The most affordable Apple Watch starts at $499 in Costa Rica, which is about $150 higher than in the United States. As can be expected, various credit purchase options will be offered with this item; Citi, Credomatic and Credix are some of them.
In Costa Rica, iCon is the closest you will find to an Apple Store. This premium reseller has eight locations in Costa Rica: Alajuela, Escazu, Curridabat, and Heredia are the busiest.
It so happens that the global marketing campaign of the Apple Watch has a connection to our country. As previously reported by The Costa Rica Star:
Apple is betting big on promoting its new device by hiring Tica marketing executive Marcela Aguilar, a graduate from Universidad Latina in Costa Rica and Northwestern in the United States. Ms. Aguilar was responsible for the successful “Dress Normal” ad campaign by retail fashion giant Gap, and she went as far as hiring acclaimed filmmaker David Fincher (Fight Club and The Social Network) to direct television and online commercials.
The Apple Watch is designed to work with recent iPhones. It features functions such as a pulse monitor, walkie-talkie, remote camera operation, drawing pad, calorie counter, and many others. It is not the first smartwatch to enter the Latin American market.
