The French Alliance in Costa Rica presents “Bon ArtPetit: A Dining Table”, a unique cultural and artistic project that is currently in its fifth iteration.

“Intervention at the dining table” would be the most appropriate phrase to describe the concept of Bon ArtPetit. The dining table is an important place in our lives, for therein it is where we converge on to sit down, share, meet, and communicate. Since 2008, the French Alliance has brought together the disciplines of the visual arts and gastronomy to Costa Rica, following the “Eat Art” movement introduced by Daniel Spoerri in the 1960s.

In this event, practitioners of the visual and culinary arts will work together to create projects that enable diners to “Eat Art.” Dining is an activity that engages all senses. Whereas the visual arts are primarily perceived by sight, those who practice gastronomy have a unique opportunity to engage all the senses of their audiences -even thought their works of art are ephemeral.

The focus on this year’s Bon ArtPetit will be on the dining table as the alpha and the omega of the dining experience. Visual artists will work together with chefs in a series of workshops to create edible artistic experiences. The public will be invited to dine at the tables of the exhibition, which may also include live music. The presentation will take place in December 6^th at the National Gallery, but artists have until August 31^st to submit their proposals -which must be approved by the Ministry of Public Health.
