Blue Bottle, a specialty coffee roaster located in California, recently announced a new special blend from Costa Rica. This new gourmet offering is called Costa Rica Tarrazú Divino Niño, and it comes from a finca in the hills of San Pablo de Leon Cortes, in the ultra-fertile coffee growing region of Tarrazú.
This is how Blue Bottle describes this new blend:
With four generations of farming experience behind him, Mauricio Vindas is off to great start at Divino Niño. Since purchasing the 12-hectare farm in 2009 (he worked as a cook to save up the money), he’s planted more than 5,000 Caturra and Catuai trees. This year, thanks to some meticulous picking and processing, Divino Niño nabbed its first Cup of Excellence award. The name “Divino Niño” is a tribute to Mauricio’s son, whom he believes emerged from a childhood sickness with a bit of divine help. Now in his early teens, Mauricio Jr. is a certified barista by the Specialty Coffee Association of Costa Rica — and, we’re willing to bet, a ball of energy.
Blue Bottle is named after a coffee house in Vienna that was the first to operate in Central Europe. For more than a decade, Blue Bottle in Oakland has been keeping its founder’s promise:
“I will only sell coffee less than 48 hours out of the roaster to my customers, so they may enjoy coffee at its peak of flavor. I will only use the finest, most delicious and responsibly sourced beans.”
Blue Bottle Coffee has grown to a small network of cafes, wholesale partners, an espresso cart, and some vintage German coffee roasters. We are still united by the simple purpose of getting great coffee to everyone who asks for it. Improbably and delightfully, there are hundreds of us now.
We roast coffee on vintage gear, put it in compostable bags, and still get it to our customers within 48 hours. We roast great coffee on two coasts, make great drinks, clean up after ourselves, bake cookies, type up invoices, get change at the bank, and say please and thank you. We offer the elderly and pregnant our seats on the bus and brush and floss daily. We look forward to seeing you soon.
