During the presidential inauguration ceremony, and in his first speech as president of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado promised to “work, work, work” for the country and to be the best version of himself to build a better Costa Rica.

After being sworn in as president number 48 of the country, Alvarado offered a speech where he made emphasis on the need the country has to work in unity to make improvement on seven key areas: recovering the fiscal stability, generating employment, improvements in infrastructure, education, security, health and protecting the environment.

“Actions and prompt answers are required. There are topics that can no longer wait”, commented the new president.

“We have to fix once and for all the risks that involve having a high fiscal deficit. This will be the fifth consecutive administration that will have to deal with this topic, with a radical difference in relation to the rest: time is running out for this reform.”

“It won’t be easy but we have to do it, we have no option; not doing it is letting our past devour us and our well-being affected. Let’s choose, then, consistently with our history, the route to work hard and for the common good.”

“Carbon neutrality is a big homework for our generation, and Costa Rica must be among the first countries that achieves it, if not the first.”

“I’ll work hard, giving the best of me so I don’t fail you. But I also tell you: Let’s not fail ourselves because this company in development involves the entire society. There is no small effort, there is not one person who doesn’t count.”

“I promise what I have always promised with intelligence, balance and strength: work, work and work”, concluded Alvarado.
