Costa Rican surfer Carlos Muñoz from Esterillos Oeste, Puntarenas will be present at the semifinals of the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California.
This is not the first time Muñoz is able to get into a WSL QS semifinal, back in 2013 he was also able to position himself among surfing’s best. Muñoz has had a great performance so far in Surf City; earlier today during the quarterfinals he went up against South African Michael February and although February started out well in the heat, Muñoz was able to outperform him achieving a total score of 10.06 vs. the South African’s 5.17; the lack of good waves played an important role in their heat, Carlos did a great job with two small waves he was able to catch, but event with almost 10 minutes left on the clock February didn’t get any good waves he could capitalize on.
Carlos will now have to take on Tomas Hermes from Brazil in Heat 2 of the semifinal, while in heat one Kanoa Igarashi from the United States takes on defending champion Filipe Toledo. If the conditions allow it both semifinal and final should take place later today. We will provide updates as the event progresses.
