Up-to-date information on tides and ocean conditions for surfers and beachgoers is available at the Costa Rica Surf website.

The top surf beaches in Costa Rica include Pavones, Dominical and Manuel Antonio in the southern Pacific region, Mal Pais, Nosara-Guiones, Playa Hermosa and Tamarindo in the northern Guanacaste Pacific region, and Puerto Viejo on the Costa Rican Caribbean coast.

Driving directions and other specifics for surfers are available on the Costa Rica Surf site for all of these beaches, as well as plenty of other hot spots on both of the country’s coasts.

Tides for today, Monday, October 23, 2017 are as follows for Costa Rica:

• High tide at 4:46 a.m. with 9.17 feet
•  Low tide at 10:55 a.m. with 0.12 feet
• High tide again at 5:12 p.m. with 8.50 feet
• Low tide at 11:07 p.m. with 0.80 feet.

By adding about 50 minutes to each of these times each day, you can estimate when low and high tides will be.

With the new moon having come and gone on Oct. 19, you can expect a full moon on Nov. 3. Both extremes of the moon’s phase can cause higher than normal sea swells.
