President Carlos Alvarado and the Minister of Sports, Hernán Solano, announced the donation of the Chinese Government of approximately 11 million dollars, this to be used for the update of the security systems of the National Stadium and other projects.

The Government confirmed a contribution for the participation of Costa Rica in the Olympic cycle with a transfer of over $915 thousand from the Costa Rican Institute of Sports and Recreation (ICODER) to the National Olympic Committee (CON).

“We are witnessing two very important events for national sports”, commented Alvarado; the first, the donation of China which will allow us to adapt the security system and others to the national regulations in benefit of the general population and athletes in particular; the second, the new transfer of funds for the preparation of high performance athletes on road to the Olympic race. As I stated back in July, when we handed over the necessary funds to ensure the participation of the country in the Panamerican Games of Lima (Peru) 2019, the Government is absolutely committed to promoting and supporting sports”, he concluded.

The donation made by China will help adapt the security systems of the National Stadium to national regulations, guaranteeing the security of all users of the venue, through the delivery of equipment and the arrival of Chinese professionals that will also train Costa Rican personnel.

This donation is the result of years of negotiation between the Costa Rican and Chinese Government of the Modernization Project of the security fire prevention system, risk and screens of the National Stadium.

The project will begin in 2019 and will carry out for a period of approximately six months.

On the meantime, the transfer to the National Olympic Committee will be destined to prepare athletes with the help of a multidisciplinary team for the participation in the next Olympics.
