The beginning of the holiday season was celebrated this weekend with activities in the different provinces, but the epicenter as usual was the city of San José where this Sunday night the traditional Christmas tree was illuminated.

A beautiful night with the full moon as a backdrop seemed magical when the Philharmonic Orchestra took the stage in La Sabana Park for a free concert; the Orchestra performed along national singers: Gustavo Salazar, Eduardo Aguirre, Sharon Abarca, Ana María Roldán, Juan Alberto Díaz and Alvaro Solano.

The more than 30 meter tall tree (3.28 feet) was brought to live with over 100,000 led lights.

This event is organized by The Coca Cola Company and is one of the favorite of families in the capital city, over 5,000 people gathered at La Sabana to enjoy the show; the organizers delivered a message of family unity and reminded everyone of the important of sharing with all those that make an additional effort to make Christmas better, those who cook diner, make tamales, wrap the presents, decorate, etc.

The San Jose Municipality also organizes different activities during the month of December, the Mayor of San José, Johnny Araya, informed they are working alongside the police to rainforce the security during this month. The also traditional Festival of Lights will take place Saturday, December 16 at 6 p.m.
