Captain Guillermo Hoppe Pacheco, General Director of Civil Aviation, informed today of the decision to declare yellow alert for Costa Rica’s international airports as a preventive measure in response to the general labor strike.

The yellow alert involves increasing security in the perimeter of the airports, in the terminal access points and in the airport in general; this with the purpose of guaranteeing the security of travelers and the airport staff.

Hoppe reported that the operations of the Juan Santamaria Airport and the rest of airports in the country are normal; the access to the terminals is limited strictly for the passengers and airport personnel.

In the past days the transit to and from the Juan Santamaria Airport has been affected by the protesters, AERIS, the airport administrator has made transportation available for travelers that have been forced to walk with their luggage to make it to the airport on time.

The security measures apply for the Juan Santamaria Airport in Alajuela, the Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia, the Tobias Bolaños Airport in Pavas, and the Limon Airport.
