The Costa Rican National Meteorological Institute informed that a new cold front will be affecting the country as of Wednesday, January 3, 2018.

According to the information provide, this system is currently south of the Gulf of Mexico and about to enter to the north of Central America and the Caribbean Sea; the effects of the same will be felt in Costa Rica as of Wednesday and will bring strong winds that can reach the 60-100 km/h (37-62 mph) in the low parts of the Central Valley and the North Pacific.

Rainfall is expected in the North Zone and the Caribbean with more intensity in the mountain areas. In the Central Valley conditions will be cloudy and with occasional rains, these conditions could last for a day or two.

Temperatures in the Central Valley will lower and will range from 18⁰C-26⁰C (64⁰F-78⁰F) as usual with lower temperatures in the mountain and higher temperatures in the valley.

The Meteorological Institute recommends precaution due to the strong winds that could cause damages in certain areas and alerts of adverse conditions at sea for fishermen and those navigating between Wednesday and Friday.

Tourists spending time at the beach should also beware of strong currents and big waves.
