The last stage of La Ruta de los Conquistadores came to an end today as competitors went from Siquirres to Moin in Limón, a route of 54 kilometers.

The winner in the male category of this last day was Spanish Josep Betalu who finished with a time of 01:42:26, followed closely by Colombian Luis Mejia Sanchez who stopped the clock at 01:42:32; Mejía had won the first two stages and therefore he is the overall winner of La Ruta 2016, and the first foreigner to win two years in a row. Costa Rican Federico ¨Lico¨ Ramírez was the only athlete to achieve this when he won the competition in 1997 and 1998 and again in 2007 and 2008.

Costa Rican Diego Tamayo managed a third position, while Lico Ramírez finished in the fourth place in this stage, which in the overall table of positions earned him the third place; this is the tenth time that Lico earns a place in the podium of La Ruta.

In the female category, Colombian Angela Parra won the first position of the general table.

Triathlete Leonardo Chacon managed a 14th position in this third stage
