A technical failure in the communication systems at the Juan Santamaría Airport in Costa Rica, has forced the cancelation and suspension of several flights.
The failure took place at 5 p.m. local time, when the communication between the control tower and the aircrafts was lost.
Avianca, Volaris, Copa and two additional airlines have their scheduled flights in stand-by until the situation is solved.
Official information has not been released regarding the exact number of flights affected, some were not able to land and had to be directed to different terminals.
“The communication of data means that flight plans are not arriving to the control tower or the flight plan center. For right now flights can’t land or take off”, explained Ennio Cubillo director of the Civil Aviation Authority
Specialists are currently working on fixing the problem which could take several hours.
