Costa Rica already reached 300 days this year producing its energy from renewable sources, according to data by the National Energy Control Center.

99.62% of the national electricity production comes from its five clean energy sources, water, wind, sun, geothermal and biomass, with the hydroelectric energy making up the bulk of energy production, 78.26%; wind 10.29%; geothermal 10.23%, and 0.84% solar and biomass.

In 2015 the country registered 299 days of 100% renewable energy, while in 2016 this number was of 271 days. This year with still six weeks to go, has already reached 300 days.

The energy produced by the wind has also reached a record number with 1,014 gigabytes per hour from the 16 wind farms located in the provinces of San Jose and Guanacaste. The speed of the wind is expected to increase for the remaining months which means this energy source will even more importance for the country this year and in the years to come.
