The conflicts in the border of Panama and Costa Rica at Paso Canoas remains due to the placing of chains by the State Border Service (SENAFRONT) in that area, which has led to meetings of the parties in order to discuss the situation.

Members of the Paso Canoas Chamber of Commerce, the governor of the Chiriqui province, Aixa Santamaria, and authorities of both nations and Costa Rican traders keep constant contact so that problems do not go out of control.

SENAFRONT director, Frank Abrego, insisted in maintaining the security of citizens, especially at the border point, noting that the trench opened to avoid the traffic is in Panama and will depend both on Panamanian and Costa Rican traders.

He added that the measures are yielding positive results, but traders on the Costa Rican side announced a protest because SENAFRONT action is causing them many losses, they claimed.

The conflict has been going on for several weeks and it seems that it will not be solved immediately, despite the good relations between the presidents of each country, Ricardo Martinelli, of Panama, and Laura Chinchilla, of Costa Rica.
