A 75-year-old man that had tested positive for Covid-19 back on April 8th is the eighth registered death in the country due to Covid-19.

The man was hospitalized on April 8th and was transferred to intensive care on April 14th, he had tested negative for the virus on May 7th but unfortunately died on May 13th. The Ministry of Health confirmed that in addition to his advanced age, had high blood pressure and had had heart surgery 17 years ago.

All eight people that have died from COVID-19 in Costa Rica are men between the ages of 45 to 85.

Through May 13, the country registered 815 confirmed cases of Covid-19, out of which 527 patients have already recovered. 19 people remain hospitalized, 5 of them in intensive care with ages ranging from 53 to 75 years.

A total of 11,764 people tested negative.

On May 12, the country registered 4 new cases while on May 13 the number of new cases went up to 11, this trend of low daily cases has maintained throughout the last couple of weeks.

The country has strengthened its control on the borders, testing all haulers before allowing them into the country. So far 19 Central American drivers have tested positive and therefore their entry to the country has been denied.

Daniel Salas, Minister of Health, insisted on the importance of maintaining the modality of work from home when possible. Those people that cannot do remote work must maintain all the golden rules, wash your hands properly and constantly, social distancing, do not touch your face and the use of facemask is recommended in public places such as buses or during meetings that last more than 15 minutes.
