Costa Rican Yokasta Valle got a split decision win over Mexican Ana VictoriaPolo and with this victory Yokasta Valle made history, becoming the first Light-Mini Flyweight Female World Champion of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the second Costa Rican female to hold a World Championship belt.

In a very hard and competitive 10-round bout, in the middle of the capital city of San Jose, where a light rain made things even more difficult for both fighters, the judges scored the fight 96-94 (Valle), 93-97 (Polo), and 96-94 (Valle) in favor of the Costa Rican undefeated boxer, who saw her hand being raised in front of her home crowd.

“It was a difficult fight, she has a hard punch, I worked very hard for this, now Costa Rica has another champion”, commented Valle after the fight.

The first few rounds the Costa Rican was controlling the fight, she moved well and was more effective with her punches, however, as the fifth round came along the Mexican turned things around and began moving forward and letting her hands go complicating the situation for Valle, the fight continued with close rounds and a lot of punches exchanged, Valle took control of the situation again in the last couple of rounds and this way managed to do enough to get ahead on the cards.

Yokasta is the second Costa Rican female boxer to become a World Champion, the first one is Hanna Gabriels, current WBO/WBA World Female Super Welterweight Champion.

In the co-main event, heavyweight boxer Carl Davis Drummond got a K.O. victory over Nicaraguan Juan Luis Gonzalez. Davis’ is trying to make a return to boxing after several years of absence and expects to get a chance for an important fight in Europe or Asia in 2017.
