The latest update given by the Ministry of Health in Costa Rica confirmed 201 patients tested positive with coronavirus. In total 1,684 people have tested negative.

117 of the patients are men and 84 are women; 183 are Costa Rican and 18 foreigners; 117 adults, 17 senior citizens and 7 minors. Currently the cases are in 39 counties, with Alajuela reporting the majority of cases, 36, while San José registers 21, Santa Ana 14, Escazú 13 and Tibás 10, the rest of the counties have under 10 cases.

Yesterday, the government began the implementation of the vehicle transit restriction from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., this resulted in 159 fines to people that disregarded the measure.

A new measure was also implemented in the public sector where a maximum 20% of the personnel will be able to continue their labor from their respective buildings, the rest of the personnel will be either sent on vacation or be required to work from home. All salary raises have been put on hold.

All institutions were asked to establish a basic operation plan within the next 48 hours that will guarantee the continuity of the services that are necessary to the public.

Once again, the Minister of Health called the attention of young adults, “To the young, who think that these measures do not apply to them, you should know it could also affect you. Yesterday we talked about the fact that we have people in intensive care with ages ranging between 35 and 50. Almost 15% of the population over 20 years old is diabetic and 30% has high blood pressure, factors that could complicate the disease. The reaction that I’ve requested these past few days includes everyone”, said the Minister Daniel Salas.

Two private laboratories have been authorized to apply the Covid-19 test, these are: Clinica Bíblica and LABIN laboratories. The government clarified that even though the tests these two labs have are not the same as the ones the health authorities are using for diagnosis (Berlin protocol test), these comply with the parameters of quality and sensibility of the test and are very effective and precise.
