As of Friday, April 10th the Ministry of Health in Costa Rica has confirmed a total 558 positive cases of Covid-19, 269 of the patients are women while 289 are men; 524 are Costa Rican and 34 foreigners. So far 42 patients have recovered while 20 are hospitalized and 13 of them are in intensive care.

The country has registered three deaths so far, 2 senior citizens both 87 years of age and a 45-year-old man. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed the death of other 3 Costa Rican citizens in the United States, a 54-year-old man who passed away today at the Hoboken Medical Center in New Jersey, a 24-year-old who passed away on March 14th in Salt Lake City, Utah and a 68-year-old who passed on April 1st in New York.

For US citizens living in Costa Rica the U.S. Embassy informed: “The Department of State is making every effort to assist U.S. citizens overseas who wish to return to the United States. But as the COVID-19 situation develops, our ability to provide such assistance, whether working with commercial airlines or arranging for evacuation flights, may become increasingly limited. If U.S. citizens wish to return to the United States, they should make arrangements to do so now, and contact the Embassy now. Those who choose to remain overseas should be prepared to remain in Costa Rica for the forseeable future.”

“United Airlines has reported that tickets for the April 17 flight from San Jose to Houston are almost sold out. The Embassy is currently working to gauge demand for additional commercial flights.”

Costa Rican borders will remain closed to non-citizens and residents until April 30th.
