The Ministry of Health in Costa Rica confirmed 77 new Covid-19 cases through this Thursday, June 11, 2020, bringing the total to 1,538 registered cases with ages ranging from 0 to 92 years of age.

In total 710 women and 828 men have tested positive, 1,150 are Costa Rican and 388 are foreigners out of the registered 1,538 cases.

A large “cluster” of cases are located in the northern zone of Costa Rica, the county of San Carlos for instance currently registers 121 active cases, authorities announced a “sanitary cooperation” for this area in conjunction with the United Nations.

“With the support of different departments of the United Nations, Costa Rica will have the sanitary assistance for the attention of Covid-19 in the northern zone”, explained Carlos Alvarado, President of Costa Rica. The support consists of over $340 thousand dollars, in addition to medication and support personnel for the National Emergency Commission.

The majority of new cases respond to specific nexus. While the groups remain contained the authorities do not see the need of going back to having more restrictions.

Costa Rica is experiencing a “second wave” of Covid-19 infections. The recent increase has primarily impacted more vulnerable communities, including workers in the agriculture and construction sectors, and related to international migration.
