Costa Rica made its debut in the Russia World Cup this Sunday morning in Samara against Serbia in a game that saw intense action from the moment it started, both teams were clear that this game was crucial if they wanted a chance to get passed the group stage, since the other two teams in Group E, Switzerland and Brazil are tougher opponents, ranked 6 and 2 by FIFA respectively.

Serbia attacked from the very beginning, pressed and took advantage of their dominant speed; Costa Rica played a good first half, had a couple of opportunities to score but was not efficient in their definition. The first half came to its conclusion without any goals.

As the second half came, Serbia once again came out pressing; a direct free kick gave Serbia the advantage at minute 56’, an excellent throw by Aleksandar Kolarov that was impossible for Navas to stop.

Head coach Oscar Ramirez made changes in the lineup hoping to reinforce the offensive line with Joel Campbell and Daniel Colindres, however, during this second half Costa Rica caused no danger at all; Serbia looked confident and comfortable, the match came to an end with Serbia up by 1 goal.
