“Costa Rica expresses its solidarity to Nicaragua and regrets the events that have caused the loss of human lives which harm fundamental aspects related to the dignity and physical security of the people”, this is part of the statement made by the Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Affairs in relation to the tension and violence that Nicaragua has lived in over the past three weeks.

“Costa Rica supports dialogue as a peaceful solution mechanism that allows the return of peace and tranquility to the Nicaraguan people”, continues the press release.

Still this Sunday thousands of civilians were protesting in the streets against Daniel Ortega and his wife Rosario Murillo in several different cities throughout Nicaragua.

The Episcopal Conference of Nicaragua (CEN) has urged the government to stop the repression and initiate the dialogue with the protesting groups and allow the Inter-American Human Rights Commission entrance in the country to investigate and clarify the deaths (50+) and disappearances of Nicaraguans throughout the past few weeks.

The President of CEN, Leopoldo Brenes, demanded the government to give credible signs of being willing to establish dialogue and peace, respecting the dignity and freedom of people as well as the human rights of the workers, especially public employees.

Colonel Manuel Guevara, spokesperson for the Nicaraguan army, stated that the Nicaraguan Army will not suppress protestors, since they believe “dialogue is the solution” to resolving the current crisis.
