The soccer match between Costa Rica and the United States that is scheduled for September 1st as part of the hex stage qualifying games for Russia World Cup 2018, will take place at the Red Bull Arena in New Jersey as confirmed by the Costa Rican Soccer Federation.
The announcement of the selected location was well received by Costa Rica since there is a large “tico” population in this state.
This match is of great importance for both teams since Costa Rica currently holds the second position in the group with 11 points while the United States is in third place with 8 points and both teams only have four more matches ahead to ensure their direct pass to the World Cup.
USMNT’s head coach Bruce Arena has the clear objective of getting the win over Costa Rica in this game, in an interview published in usscoccer.com he stated “Our goal is the second or third place, because Mexico is too far ahead and it is unlikely that we will be able to dethrone them. We can be second or third, and I don’t care how we accomplish this but we certainly don’t want to be in fourth place”.
After facing the USMNT, “La Sele” will host Mexico at the Costa Rica National Stadium in September 5; the two last games are scheduled for October 6 against Honduras also at the National Stadium and they will travel to Panama on October 10.
