Costa Rica’s male national soccer team La Sele, has been training this week with the entire team with their mind set on securing the pass to the World Cup Russia 2018 this Friday, October 6 when they face their equal from Honduras at the Costa Rica National Stadium.
Goalkeeper Keylor Navas who plays with Real Madrid was one of the last ones to arrive in the country on Monday afternoon and joined the team this Tuesday to prepare for the upcoming match.
Costa Rica has 15 points and just needs one more to classify to the World Cup 2018, while Honduras has 9 points and is sitting in the fifth position of the group, Honduras needs to win the two matches that stand ahead (Costa Rica on Friday and Mexico on October 10) to earn its pass to Russia.
From this CONCACAF group, Mexico is the only team that has secured its pass with 18 points. The other teams in the group that still have possibilities to classify are Panama that is in third place and the United States which is in fourth place. Panama and the USMNT will be facing off this Friday in Orlando, Florida.
“The pressure is on us because we are playing at home. We want to celebrate the classification at home, and this is a beautiful opportunity we will have, we have to take advantage of it”, commented forward Marco Ureña.
Honduras is a tough rival, their head coach Jorge Luis Pinto, used to be Costa Rica’s coach for the Brazil Worl Cup, he knows the strengths and weaknesses of each of the Costa Rican players very well. Honduras, however, is also going through a difficult moment as some of its key players are still in doubt for Friday due to injury and others weren’t able to join the squad for these games. Honduras will arrive Thursday to Costa Rica.
