The Ministry of Health in Costa Rica announced the evening of this Monday, June 8th death number 11 related to Covid-19.

This time the deceased was a 26-year-old woman, Costa Rican and resident of Alajuela, who apparently did not present any symptoms and whose only risk factor was being asthmatic. The diagnose of Covid-19 was made postmortem.

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Health, the patient passed away May 30th at the Guatuso Clinic, the woman did not have any respiratory symptoms and was taken to the clinic by her family due to vaginal bleeding.

Following protocol during this pandemic, the Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) requests a Covid-19 test to be carried out in deceased whose history suggests, or autopsy leads to, a need to discard the virus. In this case, the autopsy revealed pulmonary edema, a condition that made the test a must.

The test was positive for Covid-19. This is the first postmortem positive test registered in Costa Rica.

The Ministry of Health now continues to investigate the case and follow up with the deceased family members and contacts.

This Monday health authorities confirmed 24 new cases of coronavirus for a total of 1,342 confirmed patients out of which 712 people are already recovered.
