Costa Rica has now registered 10 deaths due to Covid-19 Coronavirus, the tenth victim was a 73-year-old male who in addition to his age had high blood pressure and an aortic valve cardiopathy. The patient was diagnosed back on April 25 and had remained hospitalized since that date.

In total 9 men and 1 woman that have been diagnosed with Covid-19 have passed away with ages ranging from 45 to 87 years of age.

Through Saturday May 16th the country has diagnosed 853 cases of Coronavirus, 387 of these are women and 466 are men; 758 are adults, while 43 are senior citizens and 52 are minors. So far 551 people have successfully recovered.

17 patients remain hospitalized, 4 of them in the intensive care unit.

The country has so far denied the entry to 31 cargo truck drivers at the borders that have tested positive.

The Government also announced its decision to limit the entry of foreign cargo drivers to the country with the purpose of preventing borders from eventually becoming an area of transmission of Covid-19.

The presidential decrees to guarantee this measure was signed already and will go into effect this Monday, some of the measures establish that drivers can only enter the border attention center facilities with the purpose of handling the required logistic operations to guarantee the imports and exports of the country.

Only Costa Rican or foreigners with legal migratory status will be able to move merchandise internally in the country, this way foreign drivers will have to bring their unit to the primary area at the border facility, unhook their truck for cleaning and disinfection, and another driver (Costa Rican or foreigners with legal migratory status) will either take the truck or hook another truck to move the cargo internally .

The only foreign drivers that will be allowed in the country are those that will be moving merchandise from border to border.

“The driver and its cargo will be surveilled by Costa Rican authorities in caravans to the other border, in this way we can track them and prevent transmissions since they are only allowed one stop”, explained the Minister of Public Security, Michael Soto.
