Denver, Jan 4 (EFE).– Veteran quarterback Peyton Manning came off the bench in the third quarter, replacing Brock Osweiler and helping lead the Denver Broncos to a 27-20 win over the San Diego Chargers that secured the top playoff seed in the American Football Conference.
“I’ve just never been through anything like that before,” the 39-year-old Manning said. “I’ve never missed one game and played the next week or missed two games. I’ve played every single game that I’ve been in football, except for (a neck injury) four years ago. So I don’t really know what can prepare you for something like this.”
Manning completed five of nine passes for 69 yards, was sacked once and finished with an 80.3 quarterback passer rating.
The former starter had missed four straight games due to a foot injury.
The Broncos (12-4) will have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs and get a first-round bye.
The Miami Dolphins’ 20-10 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday allowed the Broncos to finish the season with the best record in the AFC and secure the coveted top seed. EFE
Now that the Broncos are the top AFC team, they must wait for the Wild Card games to decide their playoff opponent, which could be Houston, Kansas City or Pittsburgh.

Since the Broncos will host their AFC playoff opponent at home, odds makers in Costa Rica are picking Denver over the visiting Wild Card team.
Despite their acrid loss to the Dolphins, the Patriots are still Super Bowl favorites at +350, but that could change in the weeks to come.
