Costa Rica students will benefit from a scholarship program with the Korea University for postgraduate studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics as well as master’s degrees and doctorate’s. Korea is one of the global leaders in science, technology and innovation.
The signing of this agreement was made between the Minister of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (MIICITT) and the University of Korea. A second agreement was also signed with the Ministry of Science, Technology of Information and Future Planning of the Republic of Korea (MSIP), to strengthen the development of innovation, investigation processes and development of creative economy.
“We signed an agreement with the University of Korea in a frame of cooperation in terms of formation of human capital in which the MIICITT in accordance to Law No.7169 and the National Plan of Science, Technology and Innovation 2015-2021 seeks to promote an agenda with international associates that will encourage the sustainable development with the promise of guaranteeing Costa Ricans a better quality of life”, stated Minister Marcelo Jenkins.
The University of Korea will cover a 75% of the enrollment fee and the scholarship for a maximum of 2 years to all students of Master’s degrees and up to 4 years of all students of Doctorate’s degree.
The signing of both agreements is part of the Alberto Cañas Escalante National Development Plan 2015-2018 – in its section on Science, Technology and Innovation (CTI) – details that the technological and scientific advances are vectors that influence the economic growth, the competitiveness of the countries and the decision making for the conformation of public politics. Also, in the National Plan of Science, Technology and Innovation, specifically in the implementation of a technical agenda with high level cooperation organizations gearing towards excellence in science and the implementation of strategic alliances for the international positioning of Costa Rica.
