Cirque du Soleil has confirmed through a press release that Costa Rica will be one of the stops where they will be presenting their show Sép7imo Día – No Descansaré (Seventh Day – I won’t rest) inspired by the music and lives of Argentine rock trio Soda Stereo.

The show made its debut this 2017 in Argentina and is the first Cirque du Soleil production based on a Latin band; the entertainment company has already produced in the past artist inspired shows with tributes to Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and Elvis Presley.

Soda Stereo was formed in 1982 and quickly gained a lot of popularity in the late 1980’s and 1990’s in Argentina and Latin America, the band was formed by frontman Gustavo Cerati who passed away in 2014 after spending four years in a coma product of a stroke, drummer Charly Alberti and bass player Hector “Zeta” Bosio.; Soda Stereo is considered one of the most influential Latin American bands of all time.

“Soda was known for its innovative nature and for risk-taking at all times, maintaining massive popularity along the way. They broke up in 1997 and ten years later they reunited for a successful tour with more than one million tickets sold”, explains the Cirque du Soleil website.

The show is a co-production between Cirque du Soleil, leading Argentine music promoter Pop Art and Triple, Soda Stereo’s production company; it features like other Soleil’s tributes, remixes by Alberti and Bosio of early material by the band.

The success the show has had in Buenos Aires, with over 100,000 tickets sold in the first three hours of going on sale; Chile, Colombia and currently Mexico where it has been active for two months, will now bring it to Costa Rica and other Latin American countries, but it is also expected to have presentations in cities in the United States where there is a large Latino community.

35 dancers, singers, clowns, acrobats and circus artists are part of Sép7imo Día. An official media day will take place October 17th to provide additional details of the event that will be brought to Costa Rica by Primo Entertainment.
