A Costa Rican actor is part of the cast of “Narcos” the television series airing in Netflix based on the story of Colombian drug dealer Pablo Escobar, the Medellin drug cartel, its relationship with other drug lords and the authorities. “Narcos” has become a very popular show in Netflix.

Leynar Gomez, a Costa Rican actor plays the role of “Limon” a recurring character in the second season of the successful show.   Limon is a taxi driver and pimp that becomes one of Escobar’s hitmen and eventually his lieutenant, one that is with him until his last day.  Brazilian actor Wagner Moura plays the role of Pablo Escobar and  American actor Boyd Holbrook is DEA agent Steve Murphy.

33 year old Gomez, born in Puntarenas, had the experience in local films and theater, his most important roles were in the Costa Rican films “Puerto Padre”(2013) and “Presos”  (Imprisoned) (2014) (he plays the role of Jason), this last one was a local hit.  His participation in the Netflix original film was kept secret for a long time because his contract would not allow him to release any information or “spoilers”; Gomez initially participated in the casting hoping to get a role for a character that would appear in just one episode, however, the casting manager Karla Holl, saw the potential in him and after reviewing his previews work told him they wanted him to give life to Limon.

The second season of “Narcos” was released September 2 and his interpretation of Limon has received positive criticism.

Leynar Gomez is yet another example of Ticos that are not afraid of showcasing their talent outside of the country’s frontiers.
