Costa Rican Authorities Arrest Suspect Accused of Raping Argentinian Tourist in Samara

Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) in Costa Rica, arrested a man of last names Pereira Lopez suspected of the alleged rape of an Argentinian tourist.

OIJ received the report last Saturday, the victim is a 41-year-old woman that is vacationing at Samara Beach in Guanacaste; no further details were revealed by the authorities.

The suspect is currently serving three months of preventive custody.

Just two weeks ago a German tourist reported being victim of rape in Tortuguero in the Caribbean coast; the same site of the rape and murder of Spanish tourist, Arantxa Lopez, a month ago.

Also, in the beginning of August, a Mexican woman vacationing in Santa Teresa was murdered as a result of a presumed robbery.

Late August the police also received the report of another foreigner victim of rape, this time a 19 year-old Canadian, who was robbed and sexually attacked by a man that offered to take her from San Jose to Puerto Viejo, Limon, even though the crime occurred July 22, the victim kept silent until she finally filed the report in Talamanca, Limon, encouraged by a Costa Rican friend. The suspect of the crime is in custody.

The Ministers of Tourism and Security in Costa Rica have announced several measures to increase security at tourism sites joining efforts with local tourism chambers and private tourism companies, through prevention campaigns and additional police presence.
