Costa Rican Drug Control Police carried out 9 searches this Tuesday, January 20 in Limón (Los Cocos, Cahuita and Hone Creek) and in San José (Aserrí and Desamparados) during which they arrested 9 suspects of drug trafficking.

The investigation began in 2016 with information gathered by the police and through confidential sources, the National Security and Intelligence Agency (DIS) also assisted in the case.

According to information shared by the Ministry of Public Security, the criminal group operated in the Costa Rican Caribbean, and was dealing with large amounts of drugs that originated from Jamaica and that was transported by boat in exchange for firearms and cash.

The leader of the organization is a man of last names Alfaro Bustamante, known as ¨Press¨, a well-known dealer in the area, while the rest of the members were assigned the preparation, transportation, storage and sale of the drugs.

The other members of the group were identified as of last names: Bustamante Mena (A.K.A. Gadafi); Alvarado Cook (A.K.A. El Gordo); Bustamante Cerdas (A.K.A Waupo); Pierson Brent (A.K.A Gato); Castro Hidalgo; Ceciliano Fonseca (A.K.A Garuña); Vargas Aguirre and a woman of last names Jiménez Bermúdez.

During the search, authorities seized several goods, among them luxury cars, including two Toyota Prado and a Mercedes Benz as well as a bulletproof Volkswagen Amaro, firearms, drugs, cash; communication radios, mansions, and others.
