Costa Rican Fishermen Arrested in Connection With 1200 Kilograms of Cocaine

The Judiciary Investigative Police (OIJ) detained four fishermen in Puntarenas as suspects of International drug trafficking, this in connection with 1200 kilograms of cocaine that was being transported aboard a boat 60 nautical miles from Puntarenas.

“This Sunday afternoon  agents of the Judiciary Investigative Police in Puntarenas, arrested four men, 40, 43, 50 and 63 years of age, as suspects of International Drug Traffic. This operation was carried out in conjunction with agents of the Data Collection Unit of the OIJ and in coordination with the National Coastguard Service”, explains the press release.

According to preliminary information the OIJ in Puntarenas received confidential information that a boat carrying drugs was on its way to this province, they immediately coordinated with the Coastguard Service and provided them with the necessary information that allowed the boat to be intercepted in waters of the Costa Rican Pacific coast.

The boat was brought in to Puntarenas where agents proceeded to search the vessel and found 60 packets carrying a total 1200 kilograms of cocaine hidden in several secret compartments
