The Government of Costa Rica announced changes in restrictions for the end and beginning of the year.

The measures will apply to the entire country and are as follow:

On Thursday, December 31st: The transit restriction will apply as of 7 p.m. and through 5 a.m. (exceptions apply). Commercial establishments that provide attention to the public will have to close at 7 p.m. and through 5 a.m., exceptions continue to apply (supermarkets, healthcare centers, express services, hotels, etc.) Cars with plates ending on 7 or 8 are restricted.

January 1st, 2nd, 3rd: Transit restriction applies from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. (exceptions apply). Commercial establishments that provide attention to the public will have to close at 7 p.m. and through 5 a.m., exceptions continue to apply (supermarkets, healthcare centers, express services, hotels, etc.) On January 1st all cars with plates ending on 9 or 0 are restricted.

January 4th – January 17: During these first two weeks casinos and bars will only be able to function to 25% of their capacity; national parks can operate to 50% capacity. Beaches will have a restricted schedule from 5 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

January 9th – January 31st: The transit restrictions for weekends will be applicable once again. Cars with plates ending on even numbers can transit on Saturdays while cars with plates ending on odd numbers can transit on Sundays.

Hours of transit from January 4th to January 31st remain the same as they are now: Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.
