The Costa Rican National Theater opened its doors to the public October 19,1897 with the presentation of famous opera “Fausto”; this year, this architectural jewel, witness of a wide number of incredible cultural and artistic performances celebrates 120 years with a week full of fun activities.

Celebration begins on Tuesday, October 17 with the presentation of the book “Costa Rica National Theater – 120 years: 1897-2017- Allegory, Symbol and Cultural Freedom”, the result of two years of work coordinated by the Institutional Archive.

The public will be able to enjoy the play Battlefield by Peter Brook, October 18 and 19 at 8 p.m.; based in the most famous epic Hindu poem “Mahabharata” which offers a deep look into the sequels of war and the pain it brings. Tickets for this great show are priced between ¢8.000 and ¢15,000 colones and can be purchased online at boleteria.battlefield.cr

October 20 at 8 p.m. will bring a concert by the Symphony Orchestra of the University of Costa Rica, presenting Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and “Emperor” Concerto.

The Japanese Lion Dance will be the main attraction October 21st with the show “Japanese Drums and Okinawa Lion Dance” at 8 p.m., presented by Grupo Nico-Ichi.

The cost of the events scheduled for October 20 and 21 will have a cost of only ¢3,000 colones and can be purchased at www.teatronacional.go.cr.

Celebrations will come to an end Sunday, October 22 with different entertainment activities that begin at 10 a.m. with the presentation of several traditional bands that will play their fun music through several streets of San José.
