The Costa Rican Philharmonic Orchestra will be presenting their next concert titled Philharmonic Rock December 18, 19 and 20 at the Melico Salazar Theatre.

In this concert the Philharmonic Orchestra will play famous rock songs from the 90’s, from bands such as Nirvana, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, The Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Blur, The Cranberries and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The tickets went out for sale at the end of November and most of the scheduled presentations are already sold out, in view of this the Philharmonic Orchestra opened up another presentation for Sunday, December 20th at 2 p.m. to satisfy the demand. For those that haven’t been to a concert by the Philharmonic Orchestra, this is your chance, their shows are full of talent and energy. The Philharmonic Orchestra of Costa Rica was founded in 2003 by director Marvin Araya, and it includes a total of 65 professional musicians; it has the traditional formation of a Symphonic Orchestra but it includes other instruments such as saxophone, drums, piano and electric bass, which gives the orchestra a unique versatility that allows it to interpret different music genres and styles.

Since its founding the Philharmonic Orchestra has been successful in establishing a connection with its audience, offering the public a very different musical proposal that merges the quality and fineness of the music interpreted by an orchestra with popular songs and genres that everyone identifies with.

The Philharmonic Orchestra has done concerts both in English and Spanish and covering different musical genres, some of the most popular ones include: Tribute to Queen, Tribute to Michael Jackson, Remembering Abba and the Carpenters, Disco Music, Songs of Freedom (Bob Marley), Tribute to Pink Floyd, Movies’ Soundtracks, among others.

In their concerts they include the participation mostly of Costa Rican singers but also international talent. In 2008 they won the Latin Grammy for the best Best Classical Contemporary Composition.
