The Costa Rican police and members of the Organism of Judicial Investigation (OIJ) chased a van in the area of La Sabana this Wednesday morning; during the chase some of the men abandoned the car close to the baseball field in La Sabana and tried to escape running, there was an exchange of gunfire and as a result one of the suspects received a bullet in his back, the police authorities managed to stop 4 suspects.
When they checked the car they found 2 bodies handcuffed and with shots to their heads; Gustavo Mata, Minister of Security, stated in an interview with news radio show Amelia Rueda, that the men captured are Costa Rican, the identities of the victims are still unknown and pending the autopsy. Although no further details could be shared by the police since this is an ongoing investigation, Mata stated that apparently this has to do with drug gangs in dispute for their territories; the police has been strengthening their operations in the areas of Pavas, Alajuelita, Hatillo, Guadalupe and Desamparados, since these are the areas where violent crimes and drug related crimes have peaked in San Jose.
The Minister of Security also explained that the gangs are now killing victims in residences or locations where they agree to meet and later they dump the bodies in other areas in an attempt to get rid of evidence and complicate the investigation.
Earlier this month three bodies were found in different areas of San Jose.
