Costa Rican soccer player Shirley Cruz who plays for French club Paris Saint-Germain was nominated once again by the National Union of Professional Footballers, as the best player of the Female Division 1, the maximum category in French soccer.

This is the fourth nomination for the 31-year-old who is also the captain of Costa Rica’s female national soccer team, unfortunately so far Cruz has not won the award. This year she is up against teammate Cristiane Rozeira; German midfielder Dzsenifer Marozsan and French attacker Eugénie Le Sommer who has won this recognition twice.

Paris Saint-Germaine is currently in the semifinals of the female UEFA Champions League and will have their next game against Barcelona FC.

Shirley Cruz is the captain of the PSG club and has earn respect and admiration as one of the most talented female soccer players in the world. She has played in 4 Champions’ finals and has raised the cup twice,

Cruz started playing soccer as a young 9-year-old girl, she used to play in boys’ teams since there weren’t any female teams at the time.
She was recruited by a football scout who saw her playing in a youth tournament in Canada, and she was offered a contract with French soccer club Lyon in 2006. Cruz started playing with PSG in 2012.

Cruz’ reportedly makes 10 thousand Euros a month (close to 11 thousand USD), a very low amount considering the salary of 1.1 million euros a month her male counterpart Thiago Silva earns.
