Costa Rican Andre Moreno Hamm qualified to the Slopestyle Ski World Cup of Seiser Alm, Italy, where he will compete this Thursday, January 26.
Hamm is one of 110 competitors that managed to qualify for this event with the expectation of adding enough points to be part of the Winter Olympic Games PyeongChang 2018 in South Korea. Slopestyle is the most recent extreme discipline part of the Winter Olympic Games.
“I am very excited and anxious to start chasing my dreams and to represent Costa Rica in the Winter Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea in 2018. Everything is ready, I trained on the course and it’s great, now I have to finish among the 24 best to be able to move on to the final between 81 competitors from 22 registered countries”, said Andre.
21-year old Hamm, grew up in Boulder, Colorado, his mother is Costa Rican and his father an American that always encouraged him to practice this sport. His family is from Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, “I’ve always felt “tico”, and I will be “tico” wherever I am”, he stated.
Aside from this upcoming competition, Andre has other events already scheduled for 2017, his next competition will be February 4th in Mammoth Mountain Resort (USA) where the U.S. Freeski and Snowboard Grand Prix will take place, followed by another event in Quebec, Canada between February 9th and 12th , he is then headed to Switzerland in March and Sierra Nevada, Spain in March.
The slopestyle ski competition involves a variety of jumps, which judges’ rate on execution, difficulty, height, range, landing and style, as well as creativity of the tricks performed.
The Olympic-qualifier slopestyle World Cup this January 26th in Italy will take place at 1:30 a.m. Costa Rica time, the final will then take place January 28th.
