Costa Rica is famous for its beautiful women. Finally, a Tica will grace the cover of the April issue of the US men’s magazine Maxim, and later become the first Costa Rican to appear in Playboy Magazine. Her name is Lucy Hislop, and she is originally from Guanacaste.
Ms. Hilsop is a model and entrepreneur, currently living in Miami. She was selected in a virtual competition, where she competed with thousands of other international beauties to win Maxim’s cover. She describes how she triumphed over the other competitors, “I had tremendous faith in God, and in myself, my dedication, efforts and perseverance. I like to set goals and achieve them. I keep a list of all the things I have yet to achieve. If I set my sights on something, I achieve it, and that’s what happened with Maxim. I did not stop until I achieved the coveted cover.”
When asked if she is a Tica or a Tica-Gringa, Ms. Hislop replied, “I have dual citizenship, but my heart belongs to Costa Rica!”
She describes wishing she had been in Costa Rica for the Maxim photo shoot, which took place in the California dessert where she was freezing throughout the shoot in -8c degrees. And there was no nearby toilet! The photos were a huge success, in part thanks to the American photographer Brian Hayes, a well- known photographer in the modeling industry.
Next on Ms. Hislop’s agenda is a trip to Medellin, Colombia, to appear at a Gastronomical Festival. Then, on to appear in the renowned Playboy Magazine.
Will she appear nude in Playboy? “Possibly. I always thought I would not, that the magazine was too daring and flirtatious. But I am now more familiar with the Playboy brand and recognize it publishes some of the best editorials in the world.”
Ms. Hislop has helped raise $300,000 for the Homes for Wounded Warriors Foundation, a nonprofit supported by Maxim Magazine, and other organizations. She is the owner of the New Image Medical and Surgery Center in Costa Rica, along with other businesses associated with beauty. She tries to keep her connections alive with her beloved Costa Rica, bus says she is increasingly better known in the USA.
Appearing in Playboy and on the cover of Maxim will probably skyrocket Hislop to a level where she will be recognized all around the world, while representing her beloved home country Costa Rica
